Re: Tobago Residents Voice Concerns, Hope, in Annual Quality of Life Survey
Scarborough, Tobago – The results are in for the Third Annual Survey of Tobago Performance, revealing a mixed picture of life on the island. While many residents remain proud of their communities and are actively contributing to Tobago’s development, serious concerns were raised about governance, job opportunities, and public engagement.
The survey, promoted by Tobago CivilNET and the Tobago Council of Elders, assisted by the Tobago Youth Council and Knights Analytics, was conducted from January 8 to February 15, 2025, and gathered feedback from 410 residents across all 15 districts — the highest participation to date. With a professional ±5% margin of error, the findings provide a reliable insight into the experiences and concerns of Tobagonians.
Key findings include:
34.9% rated their overall quality of life as Good or Excellent, while 22.2% rated it Poor or Very Poor.
71% expressed dissatisfaction with job opportunities, making it the most pressing concern.
Only 14.6% rated the THA’s performance as Good or Excellent, down from 26% in the previous survey.
“Youth respondents in particular voiced strong dissatisfaction with job prospects and felt especially disconnected from Tobago’s governance,” said a spokesperson from Tobago CivilNET, which led the survey alongside the Tobago Council of Elders and the Tobago Youth Council.
